Two officers assaulted; man charged at Taree, NSW

Two police officers have been assaulted after being called to assist a man suffering a medical condition today.

About 10.30am today (Wednesday 20 November 2019), officers attached to Manning/Great Lakes Police District attended a home on Valerie Street, Taree to assist a man suffering a medical emergency.

Upon arrival, the two officers assisted NSW Ambulance paramedics in walking the man to an ambulance.

Police will allege the 22-year-old man turned and rushed a Senior Constable, punching him in the face. A Leading Senior Constable tried to restrain the man, who continued to throw a number of punches at both officers.

The man was eventually restrained and arrested.

He was taken to Manning Rural Referral Hospital under guard for treatment.

The man was later released from hospital and taken to Forster Police Station.

He was charged with assault police occasioning actual bodily harm, assault police and resist arrest.

He was bail refused to appear at Forster Local Court tomorrow Thursday 21 November 2019.
