GENEVA – The UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights will conduct its first official visit to Guatemala from 18 to 28 August.
The Working Group delegation will include Fernanda Hopenhaym and Lyra Jakulevičienė. They will examine the efforts of the Government of Guatemala and businesses to implement their respective human rights obligations and responsibilities under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
The experts will meet with various Government ministries and local authorities, civil society actors, Indigenous Peoples, human rights defenders, communities, academics, trade unions, representatives of business enterprises and industry associations, and United Nations officials. They will travel to Guatemala City and other locations, including the Quetzaltenango, San Marcos, Suchitepéquez, Escuintla, and Santa Rosa departments.
The experts will hold a press conference on Friday 28 August at 12:00 (local time) at Hotel Wyndham Garden. Access will be strictly limited to journalists and interpretation from/to Spanish and English will be available.
The Working Group will present a full report to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2027.
