UNITAR signs Memorandum of Understanding with International Anti-Corruption Academy

Geneva, Switzerland – UNITAR is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) under the pillar of Multilateral Diplomacy.

The newly signed Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties opens the door for a variety of future collaborations, including the establishment of joint Master degrees and Executive Diplomas in thematic areas related to Diplomacy, Anti-Corruption and similar.

UNITAR’s Executive Director and the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General Nikhil Seth expressed his delight about this new collaboration:

This partnership is an excellent opportunity for both parties to join resources and expertise to bring forward timely and valuable projects and activities. The Memorandum of Understanding between UNITAR and IACA, signed on 15 December 2020, seeks to build a foundation and framework of cooperation between the two partners. It is based on the mutual concern for the seriousness of threats posed by corruption to democratic values like integrity and justice and recognizes the importance of international collaboration in order to protect said values. The partners seek to jointly foster the prevention of and the fight against corruption through the development of cooperation in the anti-corruption education field.

This partnership includes a variety of potential cooperations and projects, such as joint activities to provide support in preventing and combating corruption through education, sharing of resources and expertise in the respective fields and joint efforts to foster and promote capacity- and institution-building programmes. It seeks to build the foundation and context for the development and establishment of a joint Master’s programme on Anti-Corruption and Diplomacy. The first edition of the degree is set to launch in September 2021 with a duration of 18 months, with the goal to educate students in different thematic areas of anti-corruption, diplomatic skills, digital and cyber diplomacy and more.

UNITAR is greatly looking forward to working with IACA to build capacities and develop a variety of new projects.

Founded in 2010, the International Anti-Corruption Academy is an international organization based in Laxenburg, Austria, with 80 Parties including 76 States and 4 international organizations. IACA’s mission is to deliver and facilitate anti-corruption education and training for professionals and practitioners from all sectors. They provide research and platforms for dialogue and networking, bringing together field specialists and allowing for development of grounded, sustainable strategies and guidelines.
