More than 30 university PhD projects have been successful in the first round of a new university research and industry partnership, with Round 2 now open.
The 32 successful projects are sharing in more than $5 million in funding to solve key industry problems in health and medical research, agriculture and food production, environmental sustainability, tech and manufacturing and Artificial Intelligence.
The National Industry PhD Program is part of a $296 million government initiative to build a cohort of research talent who are skilled in university-industry collaboration.
Assistant Minister for Education Anthony Chisholm said the program will enhance the world-class research being undertaken in Australian universities and ensure Australian innovation is given the best opportunity for commercialisation.
“The program is supporting Australia’s next generation of researchers, creating diverse job opportunities, and bolstering Australian industry,” Assistant Minister Chisholm said.
“Importantly, it is also supporting our overall well-being and resilience in critical areas such as climate change and food security.
“Collaboration between industry and universities is key to harnessing our world-class research and translating it into real and tangible benefits.
“I look forward to seeing industry and researchers working together and encourage any potential candidates to apply for Round 2 which is now open.”
