University degree choices made easy

Students on Lismore campus

The clock is counting down for Year 12 students to lodge their applications with Southern Cross University for study starting in 2021.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic the University is already seeing a healthy increase in applications compared to the same time last year.

Potential future students are encouraged to take advantage of early bird applications, which close at midnight on Wednesday 30 September, to avoid higher processing charges.

“Applications are already up 22 percent on last year with courses like health care and education proving to be the most popular,” said Paul Robinson, Senior Manager of Student Management.

“Students who are concerned about not achieving the required Year 12 results can apply for Transition to Uni, a free intensive course which will help to guarantee a place at Southern Cross.”

Designed for students who have recently finished school, the Transition to Uni program is a six-week full time on-line course that begins in early January ahead of Session 1 in 2021.

Successful completion of the Transition to Uni program guarantees entry into most Southern Cross University undergraduate degrees in 2021.

The University has campuses at Coffs Harbour and Lismore in NSW and the Gold Coast in QLD.

Other pathway programs include the award-winning Preparing for Success Program (PSP) for mature age students, and the SCU Diplomas in business, tourism, science, engineering or health which can transition into a degree.

At this stage, study for the rest of this year and the beginning of 2021 will remain online until further notice as a result of the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the first time on offer, 2021 sees the introduction of a Bachelor of Business and Enterprise degree. This course will be taught in the new six study period model giving students greater flexibility in organising their workloads and competing life priorities.

This New Southern Cross Model, where courses are taught in eight week blocks instead of twelve, will be phased in from 2021 for a selection of undergraduate courses, with a full rollout for all courses anticipated for the 2023 academic year.

“Students who are finding it difficult to decide on the best degree and course available can reach out to us online or book a live one-on-one chat with an expert to help them navigate an appropriate pathway,” Mr Robinson said.
