Unlawful stalking at Gaythorne, QLD

A 37-year-old Mitchelton man has been charged with unlawful stalking and wilful exposure in relation to two alleged incidents on Brisbane’s northside.

It will be alleged the man approached a teenage girl walking on the Kedron Brook bikeway at Gaythorne on the afternoon of April 4, allegedly following her on a bicycle to a Belleview Street address.

Once the girl was inside the property, the man allegedly left the scene.

It is further alleged the man exposed himself to a 49-year-old woman at a Keperra train station in December 2021.

Inner West police subsequently established a coordinated operation and investigation conducting agile patrols of the area utilising bike squad, highway patrol and mounted police units.

On Wednesday (July 13) bike squad officers conducting proactive patrols of the bikeway located the 37-year-old man.

As officers approached him, it is alleged he ran from police.

Investigations yesterday (July 18) led North Brisbane Tactical Crime Squad officers to attend a Mitchelton address, where the 37-year-old man was taken into custody.

He has been charged with unlawful stalking, wilful exposure, breach of bail and obstruct police.

His bail was refused, and he is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates court today (July 19).

Inner West Patrol Group Inspector Corey Allen says information from the community was vital in assisting officers in this investigation.

“We’re grateful to local residents who report suspicious and criminal behaviour, which in this case helped us put an alleged offender before the court,” Inspector Allen said.

“Everyone has the right to feel safe in their community, and we encourage anyone who witnesses incidents like these to contact police.”
