Entries are now open for the Living Stories Western Sydney Writing Prize, proudly presented by WestWords in collaboration with WestLit Libraries and supported by The Hills Shire Council.
This year’s theme ‘Over the line…?’, challenges participants to explore boundaries, question norms, and venture into unchartered territories of their imagination. Entries can be submitted as a short story, poem, or essay.
Mayor of The Hills Shire Dr Peter Gangemi is encouraging residents to showcase their literary capability.
“The Living Stories Western Sydney Writing Prize is open to Western Sydney residents aged 10 years and older, providing wordsmiths young and old with the opportunity to showcase their talents and reap the rewards for them,” Mayor Gangemi said.
“Creative writing is a powerful tool for self-expression and personal growth, and the competition gives budding writers an incentive to refine their craft.
“To assist local writers wishing to enter the competition, The Hills Shire Library Service will host two free creative writing workshops.
“I encourage all of our residents to attend the writing workshops and submit an entry to the Writing Prize.”
Details for the free creative writing workshops are as follows:
- For ages 10-15: 10:30am – 12pm, Wednesday 17 April at Vinegar Hill Memorial Library
- For ages 16 – Adults: 6pm – 7:30pm, Wednesday 17 April at Castle Hill Library
The four winners and four highly commended entrants from each Western Sydney LGA will have their submissions published and receive a cash prize.
