Unseasonable rain band to impact northern Western Australia

BOM

Issued: 5.30pm AEST 25 June 2023

An unseasonable rain band is set to impact northern Western Australia from Monday.

While there is uncertainty about where the heaviest rainfall will be, there is the potential for larger rainfall totals than normal for this time of year throughout the eastern Pilbara, Kimberley and northern Interior.

For the eastern Pilbara and south-west Kimberley, the heaviest rainfall will be on Monday, with the focus of the system then shifting to much of the central Kimberley from Tuesday.

This rain band is expected to weaken across the central and eastern Kimberley on Wednesday, however further rainfall may redevelop later in the week.

Heavy rainfall may cause localised flooding, impact roads and travellers in the area. Some communities may become isolated.

The Fitzroy River and other major rivers in the north are unlikely to reach or exceed minor flood levels but there will be an increase in river flows from this rain.

A Flood Watch has been issued for Desert and Kimberley catchments.

It will also be unseasonably cold under the rain band with maximum temperatures well below average for this time of year, possibly up to 10 degrees below average in some areas.

Communities should stay up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings via our website and BOM Weather app and follow the advice of emergency services.
