UPDATE: Arrests – Large disturbance – Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are continuing to investigate an aggravated assault involving a weapon which occurred in the Alice Springs CBD last week.

Around 9am on Friday 19 January 2023, a 31-year-old male was located near a shopping centre on Gregory Terrace with a head laceration and taken to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment. Due to the seriousness of his injuries the male was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition. Multiple offenders were arrested as police responded to the incident.

Later that same afternoon, detectives investigating the assault identified and arrested an additional 31-year-old female and a 33-year-old male. They appeared in court today for Recklessly endanger serious harm and Engage in violent conduct.

Another 29-year-old male was identified by police and will be summonsed to appear on similar charges at a later date.

A 25-year-old male and a 45-year-old male have also been identified in relation to the incident and detectives from Regional Crime along with officers attached to Southern Desert Division and Community Resilience and Engagement Command (CREC) continue to conduct enquiries into the whereabouts of these offenders.

Detective Acting Superintendent Michael Schumacher said ” Police believe this was targeted attack between family groups and we are currently working towards identifying everyone involved.

“Detectives are still calling for anyone who witnessed the violence last week in the vicinity of Yeperenye Centre, Hartley Street and Gregory Terrace, to make contact on 131 444.”
