Update: Kurmond Road, Freemans Reach

Council has recently reported to the community that, in the course of the reconstruction of Kurmond Road, Freemans Reach, sections of the new roadworks had failed between property numbers 670 and 730. The failures relate to ruts and potholes developing on the road surface together with some crumbling at the edges.

Council’s Director, Infrastructure Services, Jeff Organ, said that a geotechnical investigation has been arranged.

“The contractor has arranged for a detailed geotechnical investigation to be carried out mid next week to determine both the cause of failure and the best method to rectify the situation,” Mr Organ said.

‘We expect to receive the results within a fortnight. In the meantime, Council has been monitoring the site, which currently appears to be in a stable condition,” he said.

It is intended that restoration works will be completed in a uniform way, and which will give a consistent surface and appearance.

“We are working with the contractor to undertake remediation works at the appropriate time, at no cost to Council. We apologise for any inconvenience to our road users during this time,” Mr Organ added.
