Updated COVID-19 Directions 2020- Public Activity No 8, South Australia

An update has been made to public activity restrictions in South Australia.

The Emergency Management (Public Activities No 7) (COVID-19) Direction 2020 has been revoked and replaced by the Emergency Management (Public Activities No 8) (COVID-19) Direction 2020. This new Direction comes into effect as of 0001 Friday 28 August 2020.

The new Direction provides an update to the restrictions currently in place for gatherings across South Australia, introduces the provision for a wedding dance at a wedding ceremony or reception and changes in relation to takeaway food and beverage purchases and COVID Marshal requirements for social clubs.

Gathering provisions

A gathering of 50 people at a residential premises (includes short term rental and houseboats) is a permitted gathering, providing the density requirements of 1 person per 2 square meters is adhered to.

Dancing at weddings

The Direction has been updated to allow the persons being wed at a wedding ceremony with the opportunity to undertake one dance at either the wedding ceremony or reception at relevant licensed premises.

Takeaway food and beverages

A business which provides takeaway food and/or beverages, if consumed on the premises now requires a COVID Safe Plan and COVID Marshal. Examples of this include a deli, a fast food outlet or a small takeaway outlet such as a pizza store or fish and chip shop.

The density requirements of 1 person per 2 square meters apply and there are to be no communal food or beverage service areas.

If food and beverages are being consumed onsite people must be seated at tables which are physically separate from any bar or area for taking orders.

COVID Marshal requirements

The Direction has been amended to identify that social clubs are no longer required to have a COVID Marshal.

It is acknowledged that many restrictions still apply, but they are critical in dealing with the spread of COVID-19.
