New appointment to the Australia Post Board

Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland, and Minister for Finance, Katy Gallagher, say Ms Robyn Clubb AM has been appointed as a non-executive Director of Australia Post for a three-year term starting from 15 September 2022. Ms Clubb is a Chartered Accountant and Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and will bring strong financial and audit skills to the Australia Post Board. Ms Clubb has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry, including as a General Manager for AMP Group and Citibank Australia Limited. Having grown up near Cooma and served as a non-executive Director on a range of regional-focused businesses, Ms Clubb’s personal experience and understanding of regional Australia will also contribute to the Board.

Statement on the National Day of Mourning

The National Public Holiday called by the Prime Minister for Thursday, 22 September 2022 will allow Territorians to pay their respects following the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth The Second. On the resumption of Parliamentary Sittings on 11 October, a Bill will be introduced to amend the Public Holidays Act 1981 to formally recognise the National Day of Mourning as a public holiday in the Northern Territory, retrospectively. This will mean the one-off National Day of Mourning to mark the Queen’s passing will be subject to the same arrangements as most other public holidays and there will be no restrictions on trade for those businesses which decide to open.

Bank branches to close for National Day of Mourning

The Australian Banking Association (ABA) acknowledges the remarkable contribution of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second, a life dedicated to service and duty. The Australian Government has announced a National Day of Mourning on Thursday 22 September 2022. Each State and Territory has declared the day a public holiday under their respective legislation. Importantly, for banks with branches and other financial institutions, Thursday will be a ‘bank close day’ with branches closed. As a result, there will be delays to some payments, as is the case with other public holidays. Banks will still be contactable, albeit in a reduced capacity, and customers are encouraged to contact their individual bank for further information.
