The Cook Labor Government is delivering on its 2025 election commitment to upgrade visitor facilities at Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks in William Bay National Park.
The improvements will enhance accessibility and visitor experiences at two of Western Australia’s most iconic natural attractions, supporting regional tourism, local jobs, and economic diversification while protecting the park’s unique environmental values.
Western Australian companies Terpstra Constructions and Earth and Stone WA have been selected to deliver the projects, funded through the Royalties for Regions program.
A new upper-level boardwalk and main beach access steps will be built at Greens Pool, with the boardwalk constructed first to allow the existing steps to remain open for public access until work begins on their replacement.
Work has begun and is likely to be completed by December 2026.
At Elephant Rocks, the focus will also be on improving accessibility to the beach through additional asphalt pathways and the construction of viewing decks.
Work on this section will begin in late July and is expected to be completed by December 2026.
This project builds on the extensive works undertaken at William Bay National Park in recent years, including the new 2.6-kilometre shared walk and cycle trail between Elephant Rocks car park and Waterfall Beach, and the creation of more than 180 parking bays in the Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks precincts.
Visitors can keep up to date with park access arrangements during construction via on-site signage and the park alerts website: alerts.dbca.wa.gov.au.
As stated by the Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn:

“Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks are rightly renowned for their beauty, and these upgrades will help protect the park’s environmental and heritage values while ensuring more people can enjoy these spectacular locations for years to come.”
As stated by Great Southern Minister Reece Whitby:
“Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks are among the Great Southern’s most iconic attractions, drawing visitors from across Western Australia and around the world.
“By investing in tourism infrastructure like this, the Cook Labor Government is supporting local jobs, strengthening regional tourism, and helping diversify the Great Southern economy.”
