  • Miles Government and Goondiwindi Regional Council to support the redevelopment of a vacant aged care facility in Inglewood
  • The project will deliver five affordable homes for seniors who need housing support.
  • Financial support will be provided from the Miles Government’s Housing Investment Fund and the Goondiwindi Regional Council.

The latest project made possible by the Queensland’s Housing Investment Fund will support older residents in the Goondiwindi region.

The Miles Government is working with Goondiwindi Regional Council to redevelop Casa Mia, a vacant aged care facility in Inglewood, 90 kilometres east of Goondiwindi.

The project will be supported with funding from the Miles Government’s Housing Investment Fund and from the Goondiwindi Regional Council.

The development will provide housing for seniors who are still able to enjoy supported independent living and want to remain in the local Inglewood community.

Plans feature fully accessible, modern and energy efficient one and two-bedroom homes.

Work is forecast to commence on the project in mid-2024, with tenants to start moving in during the first half of 2025.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Housing, Local Government and Planning and Minister for Public Works Meaghan Scanlon:

“These homes in Inglewood are the latest part of the Miles Government’s record investment in social and affordable housing and housing and homelessness supports.

“The government firmly believes that every Queenslander deserves a roof over their head, which is why we are investing in projects throughout the state.

“Our Housing Investment Fund is doing just that.

“It’s another example of different levels of government working together to create more housing for Queenslanders.”

Quotes attributable to The Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM, Mayor of Goondiwindi Regional Council:

“I am very grateful to the Queensland Government for their significant co-contribution to refurbishing the former Casa Mia facility,” he said.

“In late 2020, the former aged care facility ‘Casa Mia’ closed, and our residents have been patiently waiting for an outcome since then.

“This has been a community effort, with an exemplary local steering committee actively exploring all options for this vital community site.

“We look forward to Council managing this project and delivering independent and assisted living solutions for Inglewood and district residents in need,” he said.
