Vehicle intercept leads to Ararat crop house discovery

Northern Grampians Crime Investigation Unit detectives have seized a large quantity of cannabis plants following a search warrant in Lambert Street yesterday afternoon.

Officers attended the address and discovered a hydroponic set-up about 2.50pm with a substantial amount of plants located.

It comes after police located and seized more than 40kg of suspected cannabis after intercepting a car in Ararat late Monday night.

The officers noticed the dark-coloured BMW acting suspiciously at the corner of High and Collings streets, about 11.45pm.

During a search of the car officers located three garbage bags of suspected cannabis in vacuum sealed packages.

A 55-year-old Braybook man and a 38-year-old Sunshine North man were both arrested and interviewed by police.

They have since been charged with cultivating and trafficking a commercial quantity of cannabis.

The men were remanded overnight to appear at Horsham Magistrates’ Court today.
