Victorian Premier Issues Statement 31 July

VIC Premier

Today I announce the appointment of Chris Barrett as the Secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC).

Mr Barrett is currently Secretary of the Department of Treasury and Finance, a role he will leave to take up his new position.

He brings to the role deep experience leading a major Victorian department, many years of public service in Canberra and representing Australia overseas, and a strong understanding of the state’s priorities.

He returns to DPC having last served there as Deputy Secretary in 2007.

As Secretary, Mr Barrett will play a critical role in advising and supporting the Government to deliver its priorities, providing trusted advice, strengthening whole-of-government coordination and leading the VPS in serving the community with integrity, professionalism and excellence.

I would like to thank outgoing DPC Secretary Jeremi Moule for his significant contribution to Victorian public service.

Mr Moule has spent more than two decades in Victorian Public Service (VPS), including 11 in DPC. In November 2020 he became DPC Secretary in the depths of the COVID pandemic, guiding the department and the wider public sector through the state’s pandemic response and recovery.

Mr Moule has made a significant contribution through multiple roles in the VPS, bringing dedication, professionalism, strong public sector values and a commitment to delivering for Victorians.

I would like personally to thank Jeremi for his many years of service to Victoria, and his six years leading the service.

Mr Barrett will start at DPC on Monday and I look forward to working with him to deliver a new direction for Victoria.
