Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen will visit India, Korea and Japan over the next ten days, to strengthen international climate and energy cooperation at a series of meetings with ministerial counterparts from around the world.
Minister Bowen will participate in the Mission Innovation and Clean Energy Ministerial on 21 July, G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial on 22 July, and Environment and Climate Sustainability Ministerial meetings on 28 July, to champion Australian interests in the clean energy transformation and emissions reduction efforts.
Minister Bowen will travel to Korea and Japan to strengthen ministerial and industry connections in support of Australia’s role as a clean energy exporter and vital partner for the global clean energy transition.
Separate meetings with the Indian Government and industry leaders will accelerate our bilateral cooperation on the renewable energy industries of the future, including by enhancing opportunities in skills, critical minerals, technology and knowledge.
These bilateral dialogues will explore further economic opportunities from solar and green hydrogen and foster alliances on renewable energy uptake and emissions reduction.
During his visit, Minister Bowen will meet with G20 Energy Ministers to promote diverse, secure, transparent and resilient clean energy supply chains in support of a sustainable and inclusive clean energy transition.
Minister Bowen will co-chair a Ministerial-CEO hydrogen roundtable and advocate for accelerated efforts to decarbonise industry. Minister Bowen will represent Australia’s interests on energy, climate, and on behalf of Minister Plibersek, environmental issues.
Minister Bowen said strengthening international ties was essential to fighting climate change and reaping the benefits of a clean energy transformation.
“The global climate emergency is also a shared economic opportunity for key partners, and this trip will bolster Australia’s positioning as a trusted and reliable partner,” Minister Bowen said.
“Global collaboration is critical to ensuring Australia maximises our clean energy potential and realises our ambition to become a renewable energy superpower.
“Australia’s renewed climate ambition means we have a seat at tables we didn’t before. The Albanese Government is ensuring we can capitalise on the job and economic opportunities that come with this.”
Minister for Environment and Water, Tanya Plibersek, will be Acting Minister for Climate Change and Energy.
