Western Australia will send 15 more emergency services specialists interstate as part of ongoing assistance to communities devastated by floods in New South Wales.
Eight personnel from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers will depart from Perth Airport today.
A further seven DFES employees, accompanied by an SES volunteer, will follow over the next two days.
The teams comprise a range of skills and will help with resourcing, planning, public information and issuing community warnings.
The Incident Management Team will operate alongside the NSW State Emergency Service, which is coordinating the emergency response.
The WA staff and volunteers will be based in Metford, Sydney and Wollongong.
All will complete COVID-19 testing requirements before travelling back to WA.
Since March 4, 75 Western Australians have been deployed to NSW as the State battles extreme weather.
As stated by Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson:
“People in New South Wales are facing extreme challenges with floods that continue to claim lives and destroy infrastructure.
“It’s important that Western Australia continues to support these communities during this incredibly difficult time.
“Western Australia continues to answer any call for assistance when required and our emergency services stand ready to deploy.
I thank each person who has made the trip and answered the call to assist our NSW counterparts.”
