Western Australia Premier, the Hon Mark McGowan, MP, visited the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) History & Research Centre at Campbell Barracks in Perth recently.

Premier McGowan accepted an invitation from the centre to view the SAS Historical Collection’s many exhibits, which span the unit’s history since it was raised as the 1st Special Air Service Company on 25 July 1957.

Premier McGowan was also shown around Campbell Barrack’s Memorial Garden by CO SASR Lt-Col ‘R’ and RSM WO1 ‘S’ (protected identities) and he took the opportunity on Remembrance Day eve to lay a wreath to the unit’s fallen at The Rock.

The Rock is a memorial inscribed with the names of 16 soldiers who died on operations and the names of 34 soldiers who died in training. More than 200 SASR personnel have been wounded on operations and in training.

The SAS Historical Collection is not open to the general public, however, visits can be arranged by schools or groups via the SAS Historical Foundation website: https://www.australiansas.com/Collection.html
