WA records five new cases of COVID-19

A further five Western Australians have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the State’s total number of cases to 14.

Chief Health Officer Dr Andrew Robertson said today that the three men and two women had all travelled abroad recently. All cases were unrelated.

Flight details will be uploaded to the HealthyWA website as contact tracing is undertaken.

Dr Robertson said the cases were all recovering in self-isolation.

Meanwhile the Department of Health was working with relevant airlines to contact passengers who had been sitting within close proximity of the cases.

Dr Robertson said that while WA still had no known cases of local transmission it was important for individuals to remain vigilant in preventing its spread, particularly ahead of the flu season.

“The best way people can protect themselves – and others – is to practise good personal hygiene,” he said.

“This means washing your hands thoroughly and frequently with soap, coughing into a tissue (or the crook of your elbow) and staying at home if you are unwell.

“Remember that if you are not well enough to attend work or school you should not be going to the shops or other public places.”

He said the Health Department continued to work around the clock to minimise the risk of community spread.

In addition to the current cases, 3788 Western Australians had undergone testing for COVID-19 and been cleared of the virus.
