Western Australia will have an opportunity to showcase its trade and investment ecosystem to leaders from across the nation with the Ministerial Council on Trade and Investment (MCTI) hosting its first meeting for 2024 in Perth tomorrow.

Minister Assisting the Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade Stephen Dawson welcomed the meeting saying MCTI was a great opportunity to showcase WA’s economic successes to a national audience.

Federal Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator the Honourable Don Farrell, will be co-hosting the meeting with Minister Dawson with attendance from state ministers, senior government officials and leaders from across the Commonwealth, states, and territories to discuss collaboration across investment and trade.

MCTI drives a join-up approach across jurisdictions on emerging issues and priorities related to trade and investment, including the clean energy transition, supply chain resilience, international partnerships, and economic security.

Included on the upcoming agenda are trade and investment opportunities relating to Southeast Asia and critical minerals.

The meeting will also include a focus on several priority areas, including First Nations economic uplift, trade and investment data, ESG, and coordination of international trade and investment events.

The MCTI meeting will be held tomorrow and will be the third time the council has met, with previous meetings being held in Queensland and New South Wales.
