Cancer Council WA is calling on all West Australians to get involved in Daffodil Day 2025 this August, in a bid to raise $4 million for life-saving cancer research.
Cancer Council WA CEO, Ashley Reid, said there were so many ways the community could be involved.
“You can take part in the new Daffodil Day Dip by plunging into cold water to raise funds, host a yellow-themed fundraiser at your workplace, school or sporting club, buy fresh daffodils or merchandise from one of Cancer Council WA’s stalls, or simply make a donation online to support life-saving cancer research,” Mr Reid said.
“You can also show your support on social media by wearing yellow, sharing your fundraising efforts and encouraging others to get involved using #DaffodilDay. However you choose to participate, you’ll be helping bring us closer to a future free from cancer.”
Mr Reid said Daffodil Day is a powerful reminder of the impact West Australians can have when they come together.
“An estimated 14,000 West Australians are diagnosed with cancer every year,” he said. “This means every day another 38 West Aussies will hear the words “you have cancer”.
“Despite advances made in research and improving survival rates for many cancers, we know that almost one in two Australians will be diagnosed by the age of 85.
“Thanks to investment in research over many years, amazing advancements have been made in cancer prevention, screening and treatment – helping to increase survival rates from 51 per cent in the 1980s to 71 per cent today.”
Daffodil Day officially falls on Thursday 21 August, but the entire month is a chance to show your support.
“Cancer doesn’t rest, and neither do our researchers. By going yellow this August, you’re helping us take the next step in improving cancer prevention, treatment and survival.”
