Walk to school this October

Join hundreds of schools across Victoria by participating in Walk to School 2019 from Monday 7 October to Friday 1 November.

Walk to School month encourages Victorian primary school students to walk, ride, scoot or roll to and from school in the hope they develop healthy habits for life.

All participating schools will have access to classroom resources to help teachers get their classes involved.

Walk to School is all about making active travel fun, easy, safe and accessible for Victorian primary school kids to help them build healthy habits for life and achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical exercise per day.

Walking to school year-round is a great way for your child to:

  • Get to know their local area
  • Meet other children in their neighbourhood and at their school
  • Learn safety skills, like crossing the road
  • Gain confidence and the ability to travel independently as they get older.

It’s also a great way to connect with family members and your community.

Active travel options to and from school provide more time for conversation and are less stressful than driving. Not to mention active travel helps the environment, reduces traffic congestion and demand for parking!

Exercise before school also has a positive impact in the classroom, as active children are more active learners.

Last year, more than 140,000 students took part and walked the equivalent of two return trips to the moon!

Participating students have the chance to win great prizes.
