Hawkesbury City Council proudly welcomed 29 new Australians at a Citizenship Ceremony held on 27 July 2026, celebrating diverse cultures, stories and experiences that enrich the Hawkesbury community.
The new citizens come from 15 countries: South Africa, Colombia, Papua New Guinea, Nepal, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, India, Germany, New Zealand, Scotland, Pakistan, United Kingdon, Isle of Man, China and Ireland.
The ceremony marked an important milestone as each new citizen made the Australian Citizenship Pledge, formally committing their loyalty to Australia and its people. They were joined in celebration by Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Les Sheather; Member for Hawkesbury, Robyn Preston MP; Inspector Mark Harvey of Hawkesbury Police Area Command; Warrant Officer, Louise Pearson from RAAF Base Richmond; and Acting General Manager of Hawkesbury City Council, Will Barton.
Mayor Sheather congratulated the new citizens on their achievement, saying: “It is our pleasure to formally welcome you to Australia today. Taking this step to become an Australian Citizen is a true sign of your commitment to this country and should be acknowledged and celebrated.”
Each new citizen received a certificate, a commemorative coin and a native plant from Council’s community nursery, as a welcome gift.
