WAs real estate industry teams up with Salvation Army to provide hope this Christmas

Christmas is fast approaching and with more than 14,000 West Aussies who are expected to turn to The Salvation Army during the festive season, REIWA and its agents are once again throwing support behind the Salvos in one of their busiest times.

REIWA President Damian Collins said the Institute is encouraging West Australians to get behind the Salvos Annual Christmas Appeal to help bring holiday cheer to families who need support.

For many the holiday season is a joyous time, however there are those that can find it extremely difficult due to the added pressure and costs Christmas bring, especially now as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact some in our WA communities,MrCollins said.

Online Christmas Appeal

This year we are aware of the importance of staying safe and healthy, which is why we will be conducting our Appeal online. By fundraising instead of providing physical gifts and provisions, the Salvos will be able to allow those in need, the option of choosing presents and festive items for themselves.

The Salvation Army Public Relations Secretary Warren Parmer said the contribution by REIWA and its members over the years during the Christmas Appeal has provided value support to those in need.

Since March 2020, there has been a sharp rise in the demand for support as the economic impact of COVID-19 pushes many people into a state of emotional and financial duress. In the coming months, we are expecting this number to increase as some families are struggling to keep afloat due to the pandemic,MrPalmer said.

We have had to make continual adjustments this year as we all have, which we know has brought great uncertainty and anxiety for some. So, after the devastating year that has been, it is more important than ever to look out for one another, to connect with each other and embrace the true meaning of Christmas.

How to donate

MrCollins said West Australians are well known for their generosity. I encourage everyone who is in a position to help, to do so and assist someone in need this festive season.

Donations can be made, no matter how small, directly to theREIWA fundraising page, from now until 23 December,MrCollins said.
