It’s Local Government Week, an event dedicated to the important work councils do for their communities. To acknowledge our dedicated staff, we are sharing with you a bit about them and how they help you in Kempsey Shire.
Meet Aaron, the team leader of our Rangers. He loves living in the Macleay Valley and, for him, the highlight is the serenity of the local bushland and beaches.
“It’s awesome because it doesn’t matter if you like the wildlife in the bush or playing on the beaches, there’s plenty of options well within our grasp. We’ve got the best of both worlds here,” said Mr Bray.
Before Aaron joined Council, he lived out one of his childhood dreams and continues to do so today.
“As a kid, I always wanted to join the Australian Army, which I eventually did in 2006 as part of the Royal Australian Corps of Transport. I’m still employed as a reservist, and after 15 years of service and four deployments I’m still loving it.”
The role of Aaron and his team extends beyond parking patrols. The main part is providing safe and usable areas for all Kempsey Shire residents, including our four-legged friends!
“My day-to-day tasks include patrolling parking and illegal camping, investigating illegally dumped rubbish, managing overgrown yards and ensuring state laws are followed when it comes to owning animals.”
“My team also care for wandering animals until they’re found by their thankful owners, adopted by their new families or sent to a pet rescue organisation to receive the care they need.”
Patrolling the shire’s 3,381 square kilometres is no easy feat and Aaron supports his highly dedicated and compassionate team through this massive task.
“Dealing with confrontation daily is part of the job and I’m extremely lucky to work with the people I do because, like me, they know their roles are important in delivering safer areas for all to enjoy.”
Aaron is one of more than 300 Council staff working hard every day to provide an enormous number of services to residents.
