Welcome back to the Territory – the answer that Australians were looking for, to escape to warmer climes, explore stunning landscapes or experience Aboriginal culture.
With NT borders now open to travellers who are healthy and not from hotspots, Australians who have had travel plans derailed by COVID-19 can book their dream holiday to the Northern Territory.
Tourism NT’s national campaign, The Territory is the Answer, highlights the freedom and flexibility the Territory offers through spectacular landscapes, waterfalls and outback adventures in addition to traditional Aboriginal art and cultural experiences.
It’s important that travellers, as well as Territorians, travel safely throughout their stay.
The Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture encourages travellers to do the right thing – that is, stay home or isolate yourself from others if you’re unwell, practice physical distancing of 1.5 metres from those not known to you, and practice good hygiene.
If you have COVID-19 symptoms, isolate yourself from others and call a doctor immediately.
Where possible, travellers and locals are also asked to use contactless engagement when shopping, by choosing to pay using eftpos or pay pass instead of cash as examples.
If you’re planning to spend time at an NT park or reserve, the Parks and Wildlife team also request that you do a few things to support the track and trace process:
- download the COVID Safe app
- sign in using logbooks where provided such as at some ranger stations, commencement of walking trails, wildlife parks and other visitor information facilities
- fill out the camping fee envelopes at camping grounds with all of your information
- be respectful of shared spaces and minimise the time you spend using common facilities including BBQs, bathrooms and showers
- take your own hand sanitiser and soap

“We encourage everyone to fill in either a camping fee envelope or a logbook if camping or doing long distance walks in NT parks and reserves, maintain good hygiene and physical distancing principles, and ensure they keep informed as situations continue to change.
