Westerberg High coming to Subiaco stage with a bang

The team behind the Australian School of Theatre is preparing for a momentous season ahead with their upcoming winter musical production.

The 2021 class of Westerberg High will be graduating to Subiaco Arts Centre this June, when Perth-based company Entertaind presents HEATHERS: The Musical.

Greetings, salutations. Welcome to Westerberg High, where popularity is so very a matter of life and death, and Veronica Sawyer is just another of the nobodies dreaming of a better day.

But when she’s unexpectedly taken under the wings of the three beautiful and impossibly cruel Heathers, her dreams finally start to come true.

Until JD turns up, the mysterious teen rebel who teaches her that it might kill to be a nobody, but it’s murder being a somebody…

Based on one of the greatest teen films of all time, the 1988 cult classic starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. The award-winning writing team, Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde, Bat Boy) and Kevin Murphy’s (Reefer Madness, Desperate Housewives) hit musical adaptation has enjoyed successful runs in Los Angeles, New York, the UK, and Australia’s East coast.

Director Scott-Leonard Landers mentioned he has been looking forward to this season for some time.

“HEATHERS has been on our to-do list for a while now, and our whole team is thrilled to be able to bring it to life”, he said. “The score and libretto are well-written, and there are many of the iconic one-liners from the movie that have made it into the show. We’re fortunate to be able to now use the updated 2019 version of the show as seen on the West End, with two whole new songs which bring new depth to the characters on stage.”

“We’ve hit the jackpot with our cast this year, and personally I couldn’t be more thrilled with how rehearsals are progressing. Riley Merigan and Jessica Huysing bring a unique chemistry in their pairing as Jason “J.D.” Dean and Veronica Sawyer, and Audrey Hall brings new life to the ‘mythic b*tch’ herself, Heather Chandler.”

HEATHERS: The Musical runs from 23rd June to 3rd July at Subiaco Arts Centre, with information available at www.entertaind.me and tickets at www.ptt.wa.gov.au.

The show contains mature themes and language and is not suitable for children under 15.
