Western Australia coronovirus update as at 23 January

The Department of Health has today reported two new cases of COVID-19 in Western Australia, bringing the State’s total to 892.

One case was a female in her 20s, the other a male in his 50s. Both cases are releated to overseas travel and are in hotel quarantine.

WA Health is monitoring 11 active cases and 872 people have recovered from the virus in WA.

There have been 707,133 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those tested, 111,045 were from regional WA.

Yesterday 1,174 people presented to WA Health-managed COVID clinics – 1,163 were assessed and swabbed.

To date eleven cases of variant strains have been detected. Of these cases, nine are the B.1.1.7 strain and two are the B.1.351 variant strain.
