Western Australia welcomes NRL in back-to-back blockbuster

  • NRL Double Header set to take over Optus Stadium on 5 August
  • Top NRL stars head west for first Telstra Premiership matches in Perth in five years
  • Back-to-back matches supported by the WA Government
  • Perth’s huge National Rugby League (NRL) Double Header is on tomorrow (5 August) at the award-winning Optus Stadium.

Supported by the WA Government, the double header will see the Dolphins continue their inaugural season against the Newcastle Knights, before the South Sydney Rabbitohs face-off with the Cronulla Sharks.

The back-to-back games are the first NRL Telstra Premiership matches played in Perth since 2018, with the Dolphins v the Knights kicking off at 3.30pm, followed by the Rabbitohs v the Sharks at 5.35pm.

Thousands of interstate visitors are expected to be making the trip to WA for the double header and boost the local economy through spending in hospitality and tourism businesses.

The two matches will be season-defining for the competition, with all four participating clubs remaining in finals contention.

The NRL double header follows the recent announcement of Perth playing host to HSBC SVNS rugby matches in 2024 and 2025.

WA is continuing its huge winter of major sporting events following last month’s London Derby with English Premier League teams Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, and the five FIFA Women’s World Cup matches, which were played at the newly renovated Perth Rectangular Stadium.

A crowd of 45,000 is expected at Optus Stadium for the two games, with tickets still available through ticketmaster.com.au and additional information is available at optusstadium.com.au.
