Where should bike hub be located?

A small section of the Mulga car park, opposite Richardson Park in central Wodonga, has been proposed for the installation of a multiuse amenity facility.

A number of factors were considered when investigating possible locations, including accessibility, connectivity, security, land ownership, impacts of the site and risks.

During the course of this project, extensive research was undertaken and a number of locations have been investigated.

Following the Junction Place location not proceeding, officers were asked to consider alternate sites and options that met council’s obligations in terms of the conditions of the planning permit granted for Hyphen – Wodonga Library Gallery; Mulga car park was proposed as the most suitable alternate, as it is the most centrally located, accessible and has the required supporting infrastructure and immediate service connections.

The new proposal has a slightly smaller footprint available which will result in a change of layout to that indicated at Junction Place, however it still contains the same amenities and supporting infrastructure.

The design and façade will also be more in line with council’s other public toilet amenities.

Wodonga Council’s Manager Sport and Recreation, Liona Edwards, said Council is committed to the provision key community assets, such as cycle-friendly infrastructure and changing places facilities in our central business district, and having these accessible 24/7.

“We believe placing the multiuse amenities facility adjacent to Richardson Park could significantly increase visitation to the site and surrounding area,” she said.

“These amenities will attract cyclists and individuals with accessibility needs, leading to more activity and footfall.

“The carpark is centrally located but also discreetly positioned which ensures easy access for a diverse range of users, whether they are cycling through the city or utilising nearby shops and amenities.”

The multiuse amenity facility will provide end of trip change and toilet facilities, bike repair equipment and storage options, as well as a water refill point, which will support the current and future cycling needs of Wodonga’s community and cycling visitors.

Additionally, it will include a fully compliant changing places facility, which will provide toilets and changing facilities for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets.

Council welcomes feedback on the proposed Mulga car park location.
