Opposition leader Rebecca White has been left carrying the can, trying to justify Labor’s wishy-washy energy policy position.
In welcoming today’s announcement by the Rockliff Liberal Government progressing a Bass Strait wind farm zone, Ms White has shown she is all at sea when it comes to energy policy.
Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, said: “Labor’s energy spokesman Dean Winter knows price caps and increasing supply don’t add up, so he has stayed clear of Ms White’s wading into policy areas she clearly doesn’t understand.
“Labor can’t have it both ways on energy.
“One day they’re sprouting job destroying policy and the next getting in behind the Government’s renewable energy supply agenda.
“With Ms White at the helm it’s no wonder Labor ends up with wishy-washy fence sitting policies like this.
“Increasing energy supply is the best way to keep creating jobs and ensure we continue to have among the lowest power prices in the nation.
“Labor’s price cap would force retailers out of business, and drive-up power prices.
“Labor promised it last time they were in government, but never implemented it because it simply doesn’t work.
“The Rockliff Liberal Government will continue to deliver real and tangible outcomes in line with our Tasmanian First Energy Guarantee.
“That includes developing offshore wind farms to harness the State’s world-class wind resource which will ensure we continue to be a nation-leading renewable energy powerhouse,” Minister Duigan said.
