Wilsons Promontory Boardwalk Set For Upgrade

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is set to upgrade and reopen the popular Sealers Cove boardwalk in Wilsons Promontory National Park.

Minister for Environment Ingrid Stitt announced a $4.8 million investment to rebuild the two-kilometre boardwalk after storms damaged the structure in 2021.

The new boardwalk will be made of fibre reinforced plastic, so it can stand up to the Promontory’s wild weather – while giving visitors easier and safer access to the stunning golden beach at Sealers Cove.

The project will cross over an extensive swamp and end just before the cove, which remains a popular campsite amongst hikers.

Built in the 1980s, the boardwalk has been a crucial part of the 11-kilometre hike between Tidal River campground and Sealers Cove.

Planning and design approvals for the project are underway to protect the significant cultural and environmental landscapes of Wilsons Promontory. The project is expected to generate 54 jobs and add approximately $11.22 million to the regional economy.

The Sealers Cove boardwalk rebuild comes in addition to the Labor Government’s $23 million Wilsons Promontory Revitalisation Project – creating Victoria’s largest conservation sanctuary and upgrading the Tidal River visitor precinct, which includes new accommodation options and trail upgrades.
