Wollondilly Council offers courses for young women in non-traditional roles

Wollondilly Shire Council has been awarded a grant of almost $50,000 from the Department of Communities & Justice to run the Engaging Young Women in Non-Traditional Trades project in 2023/24.

The project will make it possible for 15 young local women to undertake training that will help them gain employment in a trade.

They will be supported to complete a series of modules including:

  • Yellow card (Traffic Control)
  • White Card (Workplace Health and Safety Induction)
  • Chemqual (Chemicals)
  • Senior First Aid
  • Employment Preparation
  • Resume Writing

Mayor Matt Gould said, “This is a great opportunity for young women in the Wollondilly Shire to get into a trade that is traditionally male dominated. These training and educational courses will provide a pathway to diversify their career prospects.”

“Over the next decade Wollondilly will continue to experience substantial growth, and with it will come more industry and trade employment opportunities.”

“The construction industry is currently the biggest employer of Wollondilly residents, so the skills that will be developed through this training will give participants a head start when applying for apprenticeships and other roles.”

The program will be available to female Wollondilly residents aged 17-24. Participants with be provided with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) so they are fully equipped to enter the workforce.
