Woman in critical condition after collision in Smithfield

A woman is in a critical condition following a crash in Smithfield today.

About 10.15am (Friday 2 October 2020), emergency services were called to the intersection of the Cumberland Highway and Percival Street, Smithfield, after reports a food truck and a Volkswagen Amarok, towing a boat and trailer, collided.

Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command were told the food truck was travelling south when it collided with the Volkswagen, travelling north, on the Cumberland Highway.

The driver of the food truck, a 30-year-old woman, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Westmead Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The Volkswagen driver, a 34-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and returned a negative breath test at the scene.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.
