Woman seriously injured after crash in Hume

A woman has been seriously injured after a crash in the state’s south-west yesterday.

Just before 10am (Saturday 8 January 2022), emergency services were called to Hume Highway, north of Riverside Drive, Jugiong, following reports of a crash.

On arrival, officers attached to Riverina Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and The Hume Police District were told a Hyundai Accent travelling south crashed into the back of a BMW, broken down in the far-left lane.

The driver of the Hyundai – a 41-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries before being taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, where he will undergo mandatory testing.

The passenger – a 31-year-old woman – was treated on scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious leg injuries before being taken to Canberra Hospital.

The driver of the BMW – a 44-year-old man – was uninjured. He underwent a roadside breath test, which returned a negative result.

A crime scene was established as specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
