Work has begun on a project to upgrade the carpark adjoining the Back Creek footbridge.
New footpaths to improve safety and connectivity will form part of preliminary upgrade works to the Back Creek foreshore carpark area at South West Rocks.
Kempsey Shire Council commenced work from Monday 26 October to install new footpaths, concrete edge kerbs and bollards around the carpark area.
Once completed, Council will focus on work to construct new picnic tables and shelters, outdoor barbecues, an outdoor shower and new bins.
The upgrade was identified as a priority in Council’s 2020-21 Operating Plan following community consultation and the plan being adopted at Council’s September meeting.
Council’s Manager Infrastructure Delivery, Dylan Reeves, said the upgrades will provide for a more functional public area with safer access and new recreational facilities.
“With consideration given to the communities needs and desires for the area, it’s great to be able to start work to improve this popular space,” Mr Reeves said.
“Council will stage the work across a number of weeks to ensure access to the footbridge is maintained and to avoid impacting residents and holidaymakers as much as possible.”
Council thanked the community and visitors for their patience while these works are carried out.
The work follows on from recent upgrades to the Back Creek area including the installation of a new footbridge and amenities.
