Works commence at Tamworth Regional Playground

Users of the Tamworth Regional Playground will benefit from works to replace the current pine bark soft fall with a rubber surface.

During the work period (approximately 6 weeks), areas of the playground will be closed to the public. To minimise disruption to the community the work will be done in three stages; the flying fox, infant play area, and junior play area including mammoth swing.

Upgrading to rubber soft fall will provide greater accessibility navigating the playground for prams and wheelchairs, while providing more controlled compliance for user safety and substantial maintenance savings.

“It’s great that we have a playground that is in such high demand and used as much as it is, however that has meant the current pine bark soft fall is not the most cost-effective choice as the bark gets kicked around and requires daily maintenance by Council. We can also ensure a higher rate of compliance in terms of safety which is of real benefit to the community,” said Manager, Sport and Recreation Paul Kelly.

The current soft fall used across playgrounds in the region is compliant to Australian safety standards.

The Regional Playground project was made possible through $330,000 funding from the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia.
