Construction workers, road workers and builders across Mitchell Shire are still on the tools as a number of essential capital works projects continue despite the impacts of COVID-19.
While there are challenges with construction during COVID-19, Council is pushing ahead with key infrastructure for the municipality’s rapidly growing population. The works are part of Council’s $27 million planned capital works program for 2019/20.
Two capital works projects recently wrapped up construction. Two new multipurpose sporting courts and surrounding light towers were installed at LB Davern Reserve, Wandong. The courts can now be used at night and will offer versatility for local sporting organisers when community competition resumes. This project was funded through Recreation Victoria’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and Council.
Wallan Kindergarten, as part of the renovation program, will give employees, children and parents, at the site, extra privacy in a refurbished change room.
Council is currently managing a number of different work sites across the community. These are:
- Agricultural Pavilion at Kings Park, Seymour
Construction on a new pavilion has begun. This project is funded by the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund and Council.
- Public Toilet installation in Memorial Park, Wandong
Construction is now underway.
- Tallarook Hall Rebuild, Tallarook
Construction has commenced with framing works in progress.
- The Shack, Upper Plenty
Construction is underway for this reconstruction. Frames are being installed.
- Stage 2 of important Road Rehabilitation works on Oak Street, Seymour
The west side of Oak Street, between Goulburn Valley Highway and Wimble Street, is receiving important works. Works are in progress.
This project is funded by the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery Program and Council.
- Wallan Youth Hub, Wallan
Wall frames are being erected. Electrical and plumbing works are in progress. This project is funded by the State’s Growing Suburbs Fund and Council.
