World Family Doctor Day

Australian Medical Association

The AMA celebrated the contributions of General Practitioners on World Family Day, Thursday 19 May.

The theme this year was Family Doctors, Always There to Care! reflecting the role of GPs as a cornerstone of a person’s health from birth to older age.

The day acknowledged the central role of family doctors in the delivery of personal, comprehensive and continuing health care for all patients. It also praised the progress being made in family medicine and the special contributions of primary care teams globally.

The AMA has made general practice a focal point of its election campaign through the Modernise Medicare campaign. The AMA has successfully secured commitments to invest in general practice from the incoming Federal Labor Government. The Modernise Medicare campaign recognises the growing demand from patients and the need to ensure that high quality GP services remain affordable and accessible across the country.
