World Mental Health Day is held each year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilising efforts in support of mental health.

The past months have brought many challenges for everyone especially healthcare workers, emergency services personnel and people with mental health conditions. Many people are experiencing greater social isolation than before.

A/Chief Officer Garry Cook said today is an opportunity for us all to think about our mental health and wellbeing, regardless of whether or not we have experienced mental illness.

“As we prepare for the upcoming bushfire season alongside the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of understanding good mental health has never been more significant,” Garry said.

“Check on yourself and others, listen and encourage action.”
