Nationals’ Member for Coffs Harbour and Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Gurmesh Singh, said tomorrow’s WOW Day (May 17) is the opportunity to celebrate SES volunteers across NSW.
“Our SES volunteers are local legends who generously devote their time and energies to support our community in times of need such as floods, storm events and road crash rescues,” Mr Singh said.
“I encourage members of the community to wear an item of orange clothing on this important day to show our support to NSW SES volunteers, who work tirelessly to keep us safe during emergencies.
“WOW Day is the community’s way of showing gratitude to all SES volunteers who put their lives on the line and who thoroughly deserve to be acknowledged, recognised and thanked for their efforts.
“SES volunteers have had a tough few years of severe weather, including devastating floods on the North Coast, and they have served with distinction.
“They continue to show remarkable courage and bravery in the face of danger and I am extremely proud of their efforts. They go above and beyond often at great risk to themselves.”
National Volunteer Week is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers.
“From 15-21 May, National Volunteer Week is celebrating the extraordinary endeavours of almost six million volunteers across Australia,” Mr Singh said.
