Wurst is best for new smallgoods factory

Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment The Honourable Cameron Dick

Queensland-based smallgoods manufacturer Gotzinger has expanded and upgraded its Yatala factory in order to keep up with increasing demand.

Officially opening the new facility today, Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment Cameron Dick said Gotzinger’s expansion showed the increasing diversification of Queensland’s export economy.

“From kranskys to bratwurst, Gotzinger is a trusted name in supermarkets and delis right across Australia,” the Treasurer said.

“But like all good Queensland exporters, Gotzinger realise the opportunities that exist through export, and they are expanding their presence in Asia all the time.

“This family run business has secured new lucrative export contracts in the Philippines, Korea and Singapore.

“This is in addition to consistent demand in Hong Kong where Gotzinger send half a dozen shipping containers packed full of product each year.

“Diversity of export markets helps protect Gotzinger from businesses conditions in any single market, and it means more manufacturing jobs right here between Logan and the Gold Coast.”

The upgraded factory will enable the Queensland business to continue expanding export growth into Asia Pacific with the first container sent to Manila in November.

Managing Director of Gotzinger, Antony van der Drift, said the support of Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) has been invaluable to their export success.

“Connections through international trade missions along with dedicated events, including Taste of Queensland, have been instrumental to our export trajectory,” he said.

Following new buyer engagements in October at this year’s TIQ Taste of Queensland tradeshow in Brisbane, Gotzinger secured additional new export pipelines in Korea and Singapore.

“We predict 12 airfreight containers at 2,000kg each annually will be shipped to Korea,” Mr van der Drift added.

“In addition, we’ll be airfreighting six 2,000kg of product to Vietnam each year. We are very excited about the strong prospects of new markets including Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and to grocery giant, Costco in Korea in the very near future.”

In the 12 months to October, the value of Queensland goods exports increased by 89.1%, or $63 billion according to data released last week by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

TIQ is the state government’s global business agency with 18 offices in 14 key markets, helping thousands of Queensland businesses export and expand.
