WW1 medals and firearms stolen from property at Wellington, NSW

Police are investigating the theft of World War I medals, and firearms from a property in the state’s central-west over the weekend.

About 10am yesterday (Sunday 12 April 2020), officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District were called to a property on Montefiores Street, Wellington, after reports of a break-in.

Police have been told, sometime after 6pm on Saturday (11 April 2020), two WWI medals, WWI discharge papers, two firearms and cash were stolen from a garden shed on the property.

Two people were asleep in a house on the property at the time of the break-in and were notified after paperwork was recovered nearby by a member of the public.

An investigation has commenced and detectives are appealing for anyone with information on the break-in to contact Wellington Police Station on (02) 6840 2099 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police are also reminding the community to ensure firearms are kept in a safe manner as stipulated in the Firearms Act 1996.
