Wyndham detectives double dip

Afternoon and nightshift detectives from Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit worked hard overnight picking up three offenders for an attempted carjacking in Truganina and two men in a stolen car in Hoppers Crossing.

In the first incident police were called to Mayfield Avenue following reports a taxi driver had been assaulted on Tuesday 8 September about 9.10pm.

Police have been told the driver picked up three teens who all sat in the back seat of the taxi before a dispute over the fare ensued.

The confrontation continued when one of the males used the driver’s phone and refused to give it back.

The driver and the trio all got out of the car before the victim was allegedly punched.

It is then believed one of the teens threatened the 36-year-old driver with a garden stake and demanded the keys to the car.

The trio were unsuccessful in trying to start the car before they fled the scene.

A call to police about suspicious activity about 30 minutes later resulted in two of the males allegedly involved, a 17-year-old from Truganina and an 18-year-old from Tarneit, being arrested.

The outstanding teen, a 16-year-old from Truganina, was arrested by detectives shortly after in Mayfield Avenue.

It is expected the males will be charged with attempted carjacking, theft and assault and be presented to Sunshine Magistrates’ Court and a children’s court today for a remand application.

In the second incident Wyndham detectives were patrolling Hoppers Crossing when they checked a vehicle and confirmed it was stolen.

Officers deployed stop sticks on Thames Boulevard about 1.45am and arrested the two men.

A 24-year-old Werribee man has been charged with theft of a motor car and is expected to appear at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court today.

The other man, a 25-year-old from Melton West, has been released pending further enquiries.
