Y4Y Big Chair: help us shape public art project

If you’re a creative young person aged 12-24 years, we want you to help us shape the Y4Y Big Chair project.

We’ll be placing a big, wooden chair at The Entrance for everyone to enjoy. But before we do, we want to paint it with a design shaped by young people on the Coast that captures the essence of The Entrance.

That’s where we need your help. Be part of this collaborative art project and tell us what you’d like to see in the chair’s design.

Local artist Belinda Wells will be leading this year’s Y4Y Big Chair Project. Belinda will be supported by young emerging artists Bella Ozegovic and Natalie Renwick. Together, these talented artists will help bring your ideas to life!

As part of the Y4Y Big Chair project, you’ll get to:

• be part of a public art project that you’ll see out in the community

• meet other creative young people in your area

• work with and learn from living, local artists

• get creative, share your ideas and paint!

How can I get involved?

Step 1: Tell us what you think at a consultation workshop.

How would you want to capture your thoughts, impressions and feelings about The Entrance in an artwork? Our artists will lead these sessions and develop your ideas into a design for the Big Chair.

Consultations will be taking place in person and on Zoom on 16 and 17 February. Register for a session on Eventbrite.

Step 2: Come and paint with us.

Help bring the design to life and paint the chair at the Big Chair Big Paint Out Day on Sunday 6 March at The Entrance. Register for the Big Chair Paint Our workshop on Eventbrite.

Step 3: Sit back and enjoy the artwork you were a part of.

When the chair is finished, we’ll move it to its location at The Entrance. Members of the community will enjoy this public artwork that you were a part of – and you will too!
