Yarra Council to not proceed with three-month trial closure of Trenerry Crescent, Clifton Hill

Yarra councillors have decided not to progress with a trial closure of Trenerry Crescent in Clifton Hill. The unanimous decision was made at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

An online survey received a record response, with over 2,800 people providing their feedback on the proposal. Around 66% of people surveyed said they wanted Trenerry Crescent to stay open.

Earlier in the year, councillors resolved to ask locals what they thought about the possible trial of a partial or full closure of Trenerry Crescent to cars. The aim was to improve conditions for bike riders and pedestrians under the freeway.

The proposal was part of a wider program of initiatives to trial using Yarra’s roads and public spaces in ways that encourage physical distancing and the use of sustainable transport during COVID-19.
