Colourful festivities will fire up Chinatown when the City’s Lunar New Year celebrations return for the first time in two years this weekend.
Patrons can expect a foodie fiesta, lion dancers, an outdoor movie screening and spectacular fireworks finale to welcome in the Year of the Tiger.
Acting Mayor Donna Gates said the Lunar New Year was seen as a time of reunion and rebirth.
“Due to Covid-19, we haven’t been able to host our usual Lunar New Year festivities over the last two years,” she said.
“What a wonderful occasion for our community to celebrate what is to come in the Year of the Tiger, as we begin to return to normal life.
“Enjoy the best mini meals on offer in Southport with our $5 food safari and enjoy the atmosphere of our very own Chinatown,” she said.
