City of Darwin is looking for members for its Sister City Advisory Committee.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the Committee played a key role in developing and enhancing connections between Darwin and other cities.
City of Darwin’s international relations efforts contribute to:
- A creative, connected and inclusive city – people that visit and settle in Darwin support City of Darwin’s vision.
- Access to markets, commercial opportunities, international students and tourists which support Darwin’s economic prosperity.
“The committee advocates, informs and supports City of Darwin with its international relations programs,” Mr Vatskalis said.
“It also supports Council’s approach to cultural, community and economic development.”
The Sister City Advisory Committee has 10 members, with one member a City of Darwin Councillor. Members are appointed for two-year terms from 30 September 2022 to 30 September 2024.
Ideally, applicants for the Committee should have the skills and expertise to meet the purpose of the Program, including experience in local industry and a knowledge of international business opportunities.
Expressions of interest for a place on the Sister City Advisory Committee close on 15 September.
City of Darwin currently has seven Sister Cities: Ambon (Indonesia), Anchorage (USA), Denpasar (Indonesia), Dili (Timor Leste), Haikou (China), Kalymnos (Greece), and Milikapiti (NT).
In July 2022, City of Darwin used its Sister City network to host a virtual trade show, which attracted more than 1000 participants from across the globe.
Other past Sister Cities initiatives have included trade missions, student-teacher exchanges, international podcasts and assistance in the wake of last year’s devastating floods in the Timor Leste capital of Dili.
