In late 2023, the Victorian Government’s Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) released Draft Precinct Visions. These draft visions outline plans for neighbourhoods around Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) stations, including at Burwood, Clayton, Glen Waverley, and Monash University.

Responding to recent media coverage about the Draft Precinct Visions, Monash Mayor Cr Nicky Luo encouraged the Monash community to provide feedback on this incredibly important Victorian Government project.

“Council is currently reviewing the Draft Precinct Visions for Burwood, Clayton, Glen Waverley and Monash,” said Cr Luo.

“The SRL has the potential to be a gamechanger for Monash’s transport connection to the rest of Melbourne. While this transformational project has the support of Council, we have previously expressed reservations about the precinct planning process. In particular, the provision of planning powers to the SRLA, the size and intensity of development and its impact on existing neighbourhoods.

“It is important that planning for these precincts focuses development and density in appropriate areas around the SRL station precincts. We welcome the opportunity to make a submission to the Draft Precinct Visions and look forward to continuing productive conversations with the SRLA and our local representatives in the Victorian Parliament.

“Council’s submission to the Draft Precinct Visions will be considered at our meeting in February. We also encourage members of the Monash community to share their views as local input into this transformational project is crucial,” added Cr Luo.

People can provide feedback on the Draft Precinct Visions for Burwood, Clayton, Glen Waverley, and Monash on SRL’s engagement website.
